"The Death Penalty in America: A Personal Story"
Speaker: DAVID KACZYNSKI, Executive Director, New Yorkers for Alternatives to the Death Penalty; brother of Ted Kaczynski, "The Unabomber."
Ted Kacyznski was arrested in 1996 after David Kacyznski and his wife Linda Patrik approached the FBI with their suspicions that Ted might be involved in a series of bombings that caused three deaths and numerous injuries over 17 years. Sponsored by ECOS.

Wed., Apr. 27, 7:30 pm, Miller Auditorium
"The Dialogue on Islam in America: McCarthyism on the Rise?"
A forum discussion with Eckerd College faculty Michael Jerryson and Davina Lopez, Assistant Professors of Religious Studies, and Fait Muedini, Assistant Professor of Political Studies. Moderated by Sean Lawlor '12.

The Eckerd College community will join together to discuss current debates concerning radical Islam in America. Faculty from both the political science and religious studies departments will provide their own insights on what has been said at the 'King Hearings', and the numerous responses towards it. Forum participants will aim to develop an academic analysis on these on-going debates and what they mean for Islam in American society. Co-sponsored by the Political Science and Religious Studies disciplines, Campus Ministries, and the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society.

Fri., Apr. 29, 4-7 pm, Hough Quad
"Festival of Cultures"
A celebration of 27 different cultures that represents the diversity of Eckerd's student body as well as students' interests in other parts of the globe - all around the theme of music.

Highlights include… (at 4:30 pm) a demonstration of Capoeira, a Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics; (at 5:30 pm), Philip Montalban and members of his Pop Reggae group, originally from Bluefields, Nicaragua, will perform songs in Spanish, English, and his native Miskitu language that will share his philosophy of life and what he says is the most important -"the achievement of spiritual growth." Finally, Eckerd's Japanese students will accept donations at their booth for the Magokoro-Heartfelt Fund for Japan which was set up to collect donations at various fund raising events on campus in support of the  victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami. The collected funds will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross. Sponsored by the International Students Program and International Student Association.

Sun., May 1, 3 pm, Wireman Chapel
"Eckerd College Chamber Music Concert"
Performers: Chamber Players of Sarasota

In this final concert of a three-part series, the Chamber Players of Sarasota will perform three works: Franz Schubert's Sonata in A minor for Arpeggione and Piano, Mozart's "Dissonance" Quartet in C Major, Prokofiev's Quintet in G Minor. Freewill donations accepted.

"A Garland of Songs for Mom: A Mother’s Day Concert"
Featuring the Eckerd Concert Choir and Eckerd Ringers. Directed by Eckerd Professor of Music Marion Smith. Freewill donations accepted.

Spring Band Concert
Featuring the Eckerd Community Band and Jazz Band. Directed by Eckerd Coordinator of Instrumental Music David Irwin. Free.

Thur., May 12, 7:30 pm, Fox Hall
Spring Orchestra Concert
Featuring the Eckerd Community Orchestra. Directed by Eckerd Coordinator of Instrumental Music David Irwin. Free.
